OLD WORLD DIAMONDS
Depth percentage, what does it mean? The two ston Depth percentage, what does it mean? The two stones above are the same weight, both 1.83 carats. If they are the same weight, why does the stone on the left appear much smaller? The answer is “depth percentage”. Imagine you had a ball of clay in front of you and you flattened it down a little. The ball of clay would now look larger from the top but obviously still weigh the same as before. This is the same with diamonds. A stone that has a more shallow depth is commonly referred to as “spready” and one that is too deep can be referred to as “heavy”. Depending on the shape of the diamond, you want to maximize sparkle and performance with a depth that’s not too shallow or too deep.

STRONG BLUE FLUORESCENCE
